Peter Rabbit’s Cousin
A few days ago I just stepped through the door onto the back veranda because the evening light was so glorious—that warm golden light that makes everything look so beautiful.
And there he was!
A young rabbit sitting in the grass.
I sat down and watched him. He watched me right back.
He was curious, but not frightened enough to leave. His ears were paying attention to every little sound, and those big eyes kept checking on me, making sure I wasn't getting too close.
I wasn't.
So we sat.
And that may have been my favorite part of the whole thing. Neither of us seemed to want to leave. Both of us were perfectly happy sitting there, enjoying that friendly moment.
Then he looked directly at me.
Oh, those eyes!
Oh, my heart. ❤️
Big, warm, beautiful eyes—and eyelashes!
For just a moment, he gave me the sweetest, most mesmerizing look I could have asked for.
I picked up Ms Focus …
Looking at that little face later, I knew exactly who I'd met.
Peter Rabbit's Cousin.
Thankfully, Miss Focus was beside me.
Always take the camera. Just in case.
Sometimes the photograph finds you.
